Super源さんの雑学事典

秋川雅史（あきかわまさふみ）の歌のヒットで、日本に広く知られることとなった「千の風になって」ですが、この詩は一体誰が書いたものなのでしょうか？

この詩はもともと、西洋で近親者の死や追悼、喪の機会に読み継がれて来た有名な詩で、原題はなく、便宜上、最初の行を借りて "Do not stand at my grave and weep.（直訳：私のお墓で佇み泣かないで）" として知られているものです。
日本では、3行目の "I am a thousand winds that blow"から借りて名づけられた「千の風になって」として、新井満（あらいまん）による日本語訳や、また塩谷靖子（しおやのぶこ）の訳による「千の風」として広く知られています。

この詩の作者に関してはいくつかの説があり、またこの詩にはいくつものバージョンが存在しますが、1932年、メアリー・フライ（Mary Elizabeth Frye 1905 - 2004年、アメリカ合衆国 メリーランド州 ボルティモアの主婦）が書いたものという説が有力です。
